Abstract

Abstract: Hypertension disorders in pregnancy, specifically preeclampsia, remain one of the leading causes of maternal morbidity in the United States today, occurring in 5-7% of all pregnancies.¹ Although the high prevalence of this condition, many patients are also not screened or identified early enough to proceed with any prophylactic treatment. The problem disproportionately hurts women of color and women from low socioeconomic classes. Studies have shown that with proper screening and focus on patient education, complications of preeclampsia/eeclampsia are signifcantly reduced. This article aims to provide an evidence-based practice guideline that encompasses proposed patient education and screening practices for preeclampsia.
