Abstract
Inappropriate use of antibiotics is a common problem in healthcare, resulting in adverse drug reactions and the development of MDROs. Antibiotic overuse has caused a huge financial cost to society as well as a huge cost to human life and human quality of life. This article reviews common reasons for inappropriate antibiotic use and examines procalcitonin and how it can be used to reduce the burden of antibiotic overuse on society.
