Abstract

The Mexican artist Frida Kahlo (1907-54) is often represented in popular culture and on merchandise today by just a few of her iconic self-portraits, which showcase her signature braided updo, Tehuana dress, and thick unibrow. However, Kahlo’s art was far from static. While she consistently favored some iconographic and stylistic features in her paintings (such as the use of symbols and detail), her art evolved significantly over her lifetime.
