Abstract

Chronic pain, a chief complaint for millions of Americans, is an increasingly challenging diagnosis for providers to treat and control for their patients. Exhausting all non-pharmaceutical options, many providers often feel compelled to offer the current mainstay treatment for chronic pain, prescription opioids. These drugs, though able to provide adequate analgesia to patients, have highly addictive and often lethal qualities and have led to countless deaths across the United States each year. Therefore, it is imperative that an alternative treatment for chronic pain be established. This meta-analysis looks to Sativex, a THC:CBD oromucosal spray as a potential substitute.

In adults that experience chronic pain, is the use of THC:CBD oromucosal spray Sativex more or equally as effective in facilitating pain management as compared to prescription opioids?
