Neuropathic Manifestations of Diabetes Mellitus

Shawn Lam

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disease with high morbidity and mortality. The current worldwide prevalence of DM is estimated to be more than 500 million. Nerve damage is the most common diabetic complication, and neuropathy is often the presenting feature of diabetes in a previously non-diabetic patient. Early recognition and management of diabetic neuropathy may prevent worsening disease progression. This presentation will highlight the many potential manifestations of diabetic neuropathy.
