Abstract

This case study describes a 64-year-old man who presented to the Emergency Department (ED) with chest pain and hypertensive urgency. The patient had a past medical history of an aortic aneurysm. A computed tomography angiography (CTA) of the chest and abdomen was used to assess the current diameter of the aneurysm and to rule out an aortic dissection. Monitoring guidelines based on the size of an aortic aneurysm are provided in the article, which are important in preventing an aortic dissection, a life-threatening complication of an aortic aneurysm. Both the medical and surgical management of an aortic aneurysm are discussed.
