Abstract
Chronic migraines are a pervasive cause of disability worldwide with 2% of the general population meeting diagnostic criteria. Current treatments for migraines include prophylactic and abortive medications, both which come with a set of possible adverse effects. Acupuncture is a therapy that has been around for 2,000 years in traditional Chinese medicine and has been used for generations in the treatment of headaches and migraines. This study examines whether prophylactic acupuncture (I) can be implemented to reduce migraine frequency (O) in patients who suffer from chronic migraines (P) with equivalent efficacy to conventional pharmacotherapy (C).
