Cannabis in the treatment of tremor dominant Parkinson's Disease

Andrew Homlish

Abstract

Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder that causes both motor and non-motor symptoms. Although there is no cure for PD, treatment is focused on slowing down the progression with the first line drug being levodopa. Levodopa can be ineffective with continued use, so other drugs such as cannabis are being trialed to see how they affect the patient’s quality of life. The objective of this study was to determine the efficacy of cannabis/cannabidiol in patients with early stage, tremor dominant, Parkinson’s disease (PD) compared to L-dopa.
