Abstract

Meniscal tears are a very common injury, especially as age increases. Over half of all people over the age of 50 are found to have a meniscal tear, and osteoarthritis is commonly associated with these types of tears. Surgical intervention through an arthroscopic partial meniscectomy has become the most common treatment of these tears. However, the invasive procedure, progression of osteoarthritis, and cost are all impediments of improving functioning. Physical therapy is a viable alternative which elicits the question, “In adults over the age of 40 (P), is physical therapy (I) more effective in treating meniscal tears than arthroscopic partial meniscectomy (C) in the improvement of functioning (O)?”

Does Physical Therapy Provider Better Outcomes Compared to Arthroscopic Partial Meniscectomy in the Treatment of Meniscal Tears?
