Abstract
The American Academy of Family Physicians states, “Topical silver sulfadiazine is the standard treatment; however, newer occlusive dressings can provide faster healing and are often more cost-effective.” Researchers must now determine which exact dressing is the ideal new standard treatment. Microbial cellulose brings to the table its high water retention capacity, strength in wet state, and porosity. It is already used as the initial primary treatment in many hospitals. This paper will address the efficacy of microbial cellulose ,compared to silver sulfadiazine, in decreasing pain scores, infection rates, and if it has an equal epithelialization rate in adults with partial thickness burns covering 5-10% TBSA.
