Abstract

While there has always been a fascination in our society with dissociative disorders, there is still much about them that we do not know. The purpose of the research presented here is to help solidify a reader’s understanding of the current diagnostic requirements of dissociative identity disorder (DID) and to discuss different treatment focuses that may help a provider approach a patient with this condition. In order to properly provide competent care to a patient affected with DID, it is of utmost importance to be knowledgeable on the topic for which we are treating them. While there is still not a formal set of treatment guidelines, this research presents what has shown to be effective and is currently recommended.
